Great Indonesian Movement Party


The Great Indonesia Movement Party or Gerindra Party, is a political party in Indonesia which was founded and chaired by Prabowo Subianto. The Gerindra Party was established on February 6, 2008. The party organizers and activists were characterized by short and long sleeve safari clothes, as well as black skullcaps.

In the 2009-2014 period, the Gerindra Party was outside the cabinet of the central government together with PDI-P and the Hanura Party.

In the 2014 legislative elections, the Gerindra Party won 73 seats in the People's Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia. The Gerindra Party brings Prabowo Subiantoselaku as Chairman of the Board of Trustees as a presidential candidate in the presidential election that year. In the 2014-2019 period, the Gerindra Party was once again outside the cabinet of the central government along with the PKS and the Democratic Party.

2009 legislative elections

In the 2009 Indonesian legislative elections, the Gerindra Party occupied 26 seats (4.64%) in the House of Representatives, after winning 4,646,406 votes (4.5%).

2014 legislative elections

In the 2014 Indonesian legislative elections, the Gerindra Party succeeded in becoming the third largest political party in Indonesia and occupied 73 seats in the House of Representatives after winning 14,760,371 votes (11.81%).

Support to Heads of Popular Regions

During the period of 2012 to 2013, Gerindra was surprisingly able to pass two of its members as popular regional heads, namely Basuki Tjahaja Purnamas as Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta and Ridwan Kamil as Mayor of Bandung.
